Business
Marimekko Oyj is a Finnish lifestyle design company specializing in the design, manufacture, and sale of high-quality clothing, bags, accessories, and home décor products. Its product portfolio comprises three main lines: fashion, which includes garments for women, men, and children such as dresses, denim, knitwear, tops, coats, jackets, skirts, trousers, shorts, and nightwear; bags and accessories, encompassing handbags, shoulder bags, totes, backpacks, purses, umbrellas, scarves, socks, shoes, and jewelry; and home décor, featuring printed cotton and linen fabrics, kitchen and dining accessories, bed linen, bathroom textiles, rugs, vases, candleholders, and other interior decoration items. Marimekko also participates in licensing activities and sells its products through own retail and partner-operated stores, as well as online channels globally, with key markets including Northern Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region. Founded in 1951 and headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Marimekko is recognized for its original prints and vibrant colors. In the latest strategic developments, Marimekko continues to execute its SCALE strategy for 2023–2027, focused on scaling its business and growth particularly in international markets, with an emphasis on expanding in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2025, the company aims to open approximately 10 to 15 new stores and shop-in-shops, mainly in Asia, to strengthen its retail presence. Marimekko also launched several collaborative collections, including partnerships with Crocs for a limited-edition footwear collection, Blue Bottle Coffee to enhance brand awareness in Asia and the USA, a furniture collection with Artek showcased at the Copenhagen design event, and a capsule collection with artist Laila Gohar featuring iconic Maija Isola prints. Additionally, the company received the Red Dot Design Award in 2025 for its sustainable and recyclable gift packaging portfolio, which uses renewable materials and incorporates Marimekko’s signature artwork. Marimekko reported increased net sales and operating profit in 2025, supported by growth in retail sales and an increasing share of bags and accessories within its product mix, reflecting the company’s broadening product appeal and global growth ambitions.
