- Aquila European Renewables Plc (AERI.L) is a London-listed closed-end investment fund that provides investors with income-based returns through investments in European renewable energy infrastructure, comprising operational and construction-stage wind, solar photovoltaic (PV), and hydropower assets across continental Europe including Spain, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Norway, and Finland; key portfolio assets include the Albeniz (50 MWp solar PV, Spain), Tiza (30 MWp solar PV, Spain), Greco (100 MWp solar PV under construction, Spain), Guillena (50 MWp solar PV, Spain), Holmen II and Svindbaek (wind farms, Denmark), Desfina (wind, Greece), The Rock (wind, Norway), and Sagres (hydro, Portugal). Founded in 2019 and headquartered in London, United Kingdom, the company originally targeted stable long-term income from diversified renewable projects with power purchase agreements (PPAs) from counterparties such as Statkraft, ENI, and Axpo Iberia, while managed by Aquila Capital Investmentgesellschaft mbH as investment adviser. Following shareholder approval at a general meeting on 30 September 2024, the company changed its name from Aquila European Renewables Income Fund Plc, shifted its investment objective to an orderly realisation of all existing assets to maximise value and return capital without new investments, and recently sold Danish and Greek wind assets (Holmen II, Svindbaek, Desfina) to Aquila Capital for €61.9m plus a prior Portuguese hydro stake for €16.5m, releasing €78.3m in cash at a 14% average discount to generate a €63m (£54.9m) shareholder return; in December 2025, Robert Naylor was appointed non-executive chair following the retirement of Ian Nolan amid ongoing negotiations with bidders for remaining assets and a revised lower offer from a preferred bidder.
