- Sound Energy plc is a United Kingdom-based transition energy company focusing on natural gas exploration, appraisal, and development projects in Morocco. The company is strategically positioned to support Morocco's energy transition by developing domestic gas resources, aiming to displace carbon-intensive coal in power generation. Its primary asset is the Tendrara Production Concession, covering approximately 133.5 square kilometers in Eastern Morocco, where it holds a 20% interest. Sound Energy also maintains a nearly 28% working interest in the larger Grand Tendrara (14,411 sq km) and Anoual (8,873 sq km) exploration permits, along with a 75% stake in the Sidi Mokhtar license in Southern Morocco. The company is advancing the phased development of its Tendrara gas project. Phase 1 involves a micro-LNG facility designed to supply gas to Moroccan industry, with first LNG sales anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2025. Progress includes the installation of key plant components and conversion of wells for long-term production. A recent strategic divestment to Managem SA, a Moroccan natural resources group, saw Sound Energy sell its subsidiary Sound Energy Morocco East for up to $45.2 million, while retaining its key interests and securing funding for future development and exploration. Phase 2 of the Tendrara project is significantly larger, targeting gas delivery to the Maghreb-Europe pipeline for domestic use and potential export to Europe. Operations at Tendrara have transitioned to a new entity, Mana Energy Ltd, with Sound Energy continuing to provide support under a transition services agreement. Incorporated in 2005, the company changed its name from Sound Oil Plc to Sound Energy plc in September 2015 and is headquartered in London, United Kingdom. Beyond gas, Sound Energy is also exploring opportunities in natural hydrogen and helium, and has entered into a renewable power joint venture, aligning with broader energy transition goals.
