Business
Trainline Plc operates as Europe's leading independent digital platform for rail and coach ticketing, enabling customers to search, book and manage journeys via its highly rated website and mobile app. The company offers core services through three segments: UK Consumer, providing rail tickets for all UK operators and coach tickets from National Express with ancillary options including trip insurance, seat reservations, railcards and advertising partnerships; International Consumer, selling rail and coach tickets from major European carriers across more than 40 countries to global customers with live pricing, real-time information and AI-driven recommendations; and Trainline Solutions, delivering Platform One technology, white-label e-commerce platforms for UK rail operators, rail booking solutions for SMEs, corporates, public sector and travel management companies, and retailing capabilities for carriers and travel sellers. Trainline Plc generates revenue primarily from commissions on ticket sales, ancillary services and platform fees, serving millions of travellers with features like price comparison, etickets and self-service functionality. Founded in 1997 by the Virgin Group and headquartered in London, United Kingdom, with key offices in Paris and Edinburgh, the company employs over 1,000 staff from more than 55 nationalities and connects to over 270 rail and coach operators. In April 2025, Trainline Plc announces an agreement to acquire Trenes.com, the Barcelona-based Spanish online train and coach platform, to enhance its presence in the liberalizing Spanish rail market, integrate advanced technology via Platform One and expand customer choice for sustainable travel options. Recent financials reflect strong growth, with net ticket sales reaching 5.907 billion pounds for fiscal year 2025 ended February 28, up 12% year-over-year, and first-half 2026 sales up 8% to 3.25 billion pounds.
