Founded in 1955, McDonald’s is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The Company operates through U.S.; International Operated Markets; and International Developmental Licensed Markets and Corporate segments. International Operated Markets include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom, where McDonald’s owns, operates and franchises restaurants. International Developmental Licensed Markets and Corporate comprise developmental licensee and affiliate markets. At December 31, 2025, McDonald’s system included 45,356 restaurants in more than 100 countries, approximately 95% of which were franchised, through conventional franchise, developmental license and affiliate arrangements. The Company serves consumers through restaurant dining, drive-thru, takeaway, delivery and digital ordering channels, supported by its MyMcDonald’s Rewards loyalty platform and mobile applications.
Recent strategic developments include McDonald’s agreement to acquire Carlyle’s stake in McDonald’s China, increasing the Company’s ownership interest in its China business and reinforcing its long-term expansion strategy in that market. McDonald’s also continues to execute its Accelerating the Arches growth strategy through restaurant development, value platforms, core-menu enhancements, loyalty expansion, digital engagement and operational technology investments. In 2025, the Company opened 2,276 restaurants, expanded loyalty program availability to 70 markets, and reported nearly $37 billion of systemwide sales to loyalty members. During 2026, McDonald’s introduced everyday affordable-price initiatives in the United States, including individual menu items priced below $3 and a $4 breakfast meal deal, expanded beverage offerings in selected markets, and launched a global FIFA World Cup 26 Meal and Happy Meal program beginning in June across nearly all McDonald’s restaurants worldwide.
