Business
The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS) owns and operates movie theatres and hotels and resorts throughout the United States. The company conducts its business through two principal divisions: Marcus Theatres, the fourth largest theatre circuit in the U.S. that owns or operates approximately 995 screens at 79 locations across 17 states under the Marcus Theatres, Movie Tavern by Marcus, and BistroPlex brands, offering advanced ticketing, premium seating such as DreamLounger recliners, concessions, and alternative programming including independent films and SCREENX auditoriums; and Marcus Hotels & Resorts, which owns or manages 16 hotels, resorts, and other properties in eight states, providing upper-upscale lodging with amenities focused on group business, leisure travel, and convention attendees. Founded in 1935 with the purchase of a single movie theatre in Ripon, Wisconsin, the company is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and maintains significant company-owned real estate assets in the entertainment and hospitality industries. Marcus Hotels & Resorts recently completed multi-year renovations at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa and The Pfister Hotel, undertook a major renovation of Hilton Milwaukee set to finish by year-end 2025, and announced plans in September 2025 to relaunch the west wing of Hilton Milwaukee as The Marc Hotel, an independent 175-room limited-service property with direct connectivity to the Baird Center, slated to open in early 2026; additionally, the company expanded SCREENX auditoriums in Illinois, Minnesota, and Ohio during spring 2025, repurchased $9 million in shares during the third quarter of fiscal 2025, and received Board authorization for up to 4.0 million additional share repurchases.
