Business
Pediatrix Medical Group, Inc. (NYSE: MD) is a physician-led provider of specialized health care services for women, babies, and children across the United States. The company offers maternal-fetal medicine, obstetrical hospitalist services, obstetrics and gynecology care; neonatology including neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), newborn nursery services, and newborn hearing screens; and more than 20 pediatric subspecialties such as cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, gastroenterology, hematology, infectious disease, intensive/critical care, emergency medicine, surgery, and hospitalist services; complemented by telemedicine solutions, telehealth, and evidence-based clinical research support. Pediatrix-affiliated clinicians, numbering approximately 4,400 including over 2,600 physicians, deliver coordinated care in hospital settings and office-based practices, partnering with nearly 400 hospitals and health systems across 36 to 37 states. Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Sunrise, Florida, the company focuses on high-quality, patient-centered outcomes through investments in research, education, quality improvement, safety initiatives, and advanced clinical data utilization. In recent strategic developments, Pediatrix completed a portfolio restructuring in 2024-2025 by divesting its anesthesiology and radiology medical groups as well as its primary and urgent care clinics to refocus on core hospital-based services in neonatology, maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric intensive care, and obstetrics. The company transitioned to a hybrid revenue cycle management model, enhancing collection activity and operational efficiency, which contributed to improved free operating cash flow of $147 million and reduced leverage to 1.1x as of September 30, 2025. Additional changes include leadership transitions with Jim D. Swift, M.D., as CEO, a $250 million share repurchase authorization in August 2025, an S&P credit rating upgrade to 'BB' in November 2025, and raised full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance to $270-$290 million amid targeted small acquisitions in NICUs, maternal-fetal medicine, and obstetric hospitalist operations. These initiatives support same-unit revenue growth of 6.9% year-to-date in 2025 and position the company for low-single-digit volume expansion and modest reimbursement increases.
