Business
Medicenna Therapeutics Corp., founded in 2015 and headquartered in Toronto, Canada, is a clinical-stage immunotherapy company focused on the development of highly selective Superkines targeting cancer, autoimmune diseases and inflammatory diseases. The company’s core pipeline includes MDNA11, a long-acting IL-2 Superkine being evaluated in the Phase 1/2 ABILITY-1 study in monotherapy and combination with pembrolizumab for advanced solid tumors; MDNA113, a first-in-class tumor-anchored and conditionally activated anti-PD-1 x IL-2 bifunctional Superkine advancing through IND-enabling work for solid tumors; and bizaxofusp, formerly MDNA55, an IL-4 Empowered Superkine being advanced for recurrent glioblastoma and other brain cancers. Medicenna’s platform technologies include BiSKITs and T-MASK, which are used to design targeted and masked immunotherapies intended to widen the therapeutic window and improve tumor selectivity. The company’s programs are directed primarily at difficult-to-treat cancers, including melanoma, endometrial cancer, gastrointestinal cancers and glioblastoma, with development efforts centered in Canada and the United States and supported by global clinical and partnering activities. In 2026, Medicenna reported continued clinical progress for MDNA11, including updated response data supporting advancement toward a potential registrational strategy, and expanded earlier-line development through the Fondazione Melanoma-sponsored NEO-CYT trial in resectable high-risk melanoma. The company also advanced MDNA113 with new preclinical data from non-human primate studies, issued plans to file an IND and begin first-in-human testing in late 2026, and strengthened its intellectual property estate with new issued and allowed patents across its IL-2, IL-4 and IL-13 Superkine platforms. In addition, Medicenna continued to pursue strategic partnering for bizaxofusp and strengthened its balance sheet through a public offering of units and a structured financing arrangement, while also adding Dr. Nageatte Ibrahim as fractional chief medical officer to support its development strategy.
