Markel Group Inc. (NYSE: MKL) operates as a financial holding company focused on specialty insurance, reinsurance, and diversified non-insurance investments through its Markel Ventures segment. Markel Insurance provides tailored property and casualty coverage for hard-to-place risks, including equine and livestock, marine and energy, professional liability, accident and health, casualty treaty reinsurance, contingency, property treaty reinsurance, and trade credit; offerings span Markel Specialty for U.S. and Bermuda markets covering camps, child care centers, horses and farms, medical transportation, motorcycles, boats, ATVs, museums, fine art, pest control, schools, social service agencies, and small businesses, alongside Markel International for wholesale and national markets across the UK, Europe, Canada, Latin America, and Asia Pacific; State National delivers risk management solutions for financial institutions. Markel Ventures encompasses industrial, financial, consumer, and other businesses such as manufacturing, healthcare, construction, transportation equipment, consumer and building products, and consulting services. Founded in 1930 and headquartered in Glen Allen, Virginia, the company maintains approximately 80 offices in 18 countries, including key locations in Richmond, London, Toronto, Scottsdale, and international hubs. In 2023, Markel Corporation rebranded to Markel Group Inc. to reflect its expanded holding company structure; recent developments include the April 2025 agreement to acquire The MECO Group Limited, a specialist marine managing general agent with brands like The Charterers P&I Club, Transmarine, and Aurora P&I, enhancing marine capabilities in Asia-Pacific and Europe; the August 2025 completion of selling renewal rights for its Global Reinsurance business to Nationwide; and a July 2025 letter of intent for a new fronting arrangement with Hagerty in the collector car insurance space.
