MTN Group Limited is Africa's largest mobile network operator providing voice, data, fintech including MoMo mobile financial services, digital entertainment platforms such as ayoba, enterprise connectivity solutions, wholesale services and API marketplace offerings via Chenosis to over 301 million customers across 16 markets primarily in Africa and the Middle East; the Johannesburg-headquartered company, founded in 1994, operates mobile and fixed access networks supporting GSM, 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G technologies alongside interconnect, roaming, SMS and mobile device sales. Its operations span key markets including South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and Uganda with a strategic focus on consumer, enterprise and wholesale segments under the Ambition 2025 plan to lead digital solutions for Africa's progress through scale connectivity infrastructure and platform businesses. Recent developments include surpassing 300 million customers in October 2025, strengthening partnerships with IHS Towers for mobile connectivity and digital inclusion in August 2024, advancing the 2Africa subsea cable milestone with META via subsidiary Bayobab in November 2025, launching a Microsoft Azure collaboration for real-time intelligence modernization in October 2025 and reorganizing leadership with MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola appointed Vice President for Francophone Africa effective November 2025 to sharpen focus on connectivity, fintech and digital infrastructure beyond Ambition 2025.
