Business
Mazor Robotics Ltd, an Israel-based medical device company founded in 2001 and headquartered in Caesarea, develops and markets robotic guidance systems for spine and brain surgery; its core products include the Renaissance Guidance System for precise implant placement in procedures such as percutaneous degenerative repair, pedicle screw fixation, and vertebral augmentation, and the Mazor X Surgical Assurance Platform, which provides preoperative planning, intraoperative navigation, real-time 3D verification, and connectivity features for minimally invasive spinal surgeries. Medtronic plc completed its acquisition of Mazor Robotics in December 2018 for approximately $1.7 billion, integrating the technology into its Restorative Therapies Group to combine with spine implants, StealthStation navigation, 3D imaging, and powered surgical tools like the Midas Rex high-speed drills. Recent enhancements under Medtronic include the Mazor X Stealth Edition cleared by the FDA in early 2019 for seamless software integration, software version 5.1 launched in 2024 with AI capabilities, bone cutting, and graft delivery as part of the AiBLE spine surgery ecosystem, and ongoing FDA registrations active as of 2025, expanding applications to patient-specific rods, osteotomies, and interbody cages while serving surgeons and hospitals globally across four continents.
