- Noble Corporation plc (NYSE: NE) is a leading offshore drilling contractor for the oil and gas industry that owns and operates one of the most modern, versatile, and technically advanced fleets of mobile offshore drilling units (MODUs), including drillships, semi-submersibles, and high-specification jackups focused on ultra-deepwater and harsh environment drilling opportunities; it provides contract drilling services such as well construction, completion, and plug-and-abandonment to major integrated, independent, and state-owned oil and gas companies worldwide. Founded in 1921 by Lloyd Noble in Ardmore, Oklahoma, the company is headquartered in Sugar Land, Texas, with key operational offices in Houston, London, Aberdeen, and Kuala Lumpur, and conducts business across regions including the US Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, Africa, Middle East, Far East Asia, South America, and Oceania. In September 2024, Noble completed its $1.6 billion acquisition of Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc., in a stock-and-cash transaction that expanded its fleet to approximately 41 rigs—28 floaters (including four additional 7th-generation drillships and a high-spec harsh environment semi-submersible) and 13 jackups—boosted its contract backlog to around $6.5 billion, enhanced its deepwater leadership strategy, and led to the appointment of Patrice Douglas from Diamond's board to Noble's board of directors; this followed a definitive merger agreement announced in June 2024 and a 25% increase in its quarterly dividend to $0.50 per share starting in Q3 2024, with total 2025 shareholder returns projected at $340 million including dividends and buybacks.
