Chartwell Retirement Residences (TSX: CSH.UN), an unincorporated open-ended real estate trust founded in 2003 and headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, owns, operates, and manages retirement residences and long-term care homes across Canada, including in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. The company provides a range of senior living options, including independent living, assisted living, and memory care; long-term care services; meals, nursing care, housekeeping, laundry, leisure and social programs, fitness classes, dining experiences, transportation, and other amenities in over 100 communities. It generates revenue primarily from retirement operations at market-based rates and serves age-qualified seniors through supportive living to comprehensive care segments. Chartwell recently expanded through strategic acquisitions, including an 85% interest in two Quebec residences with 685 suites from EMD-Batimo for $166 million in June 2024; Les Tours Angrignon in Montreal closed October 1, 2025; and The Edward, a modern boutique residence in Alberta, announced November 18, 2025. These transactions, totaling over $500 million in recent portfolio deals, involve partnerships like joint ventures with Welltower and Batimo, NOI guarantees, and management fees, enhancing its high-quality assets in key markets. The moves support operational synergies and growth in strong demographic regions.
