Business
Nikon Corporation, a global leader in optical and precision technologies, develops and distributes a diverse array of instruments across various international markets, including Japan, North America, Europe, China, and Thailand. The company structures its operations into five principal segments: Imaging Products, Precision Equipment, Healthcare, Components, and Digital Manufacturing. The Imaging Products segment delivers digital mirrorless and single-lens reflex cameras, a broad range of interchangeable NIKKOR lenses, compact digital cameras, and associated accessories and software, including recent additions like cinema cameras through strategic acquisitions. Its Precision Equipment segment is vital for advanced manufacturing, providing FPD and semiconductor lithography systems, such as immersion scanners and emerging back-end process lithography solutions. In Healthcare, Nikon offers biological microscopes, cell culture observation platforms, ultra-wide field retinal imaging devices, and services for cell development and manufacturing. The Components business focuses on optical elements, specialized optical parts, encoders, EUV-related components, and material processing, including photomask substrates for FPDs and space-related solutions. The Digital Manufacturing segment, a recent strategic focus, encompasses industrial microscopes, non-contact 3D metrology and X-ray/CT inspection systems, surveying instruments, metal additive manufacturing systems, and industrial robot vision solutions, alongside new initiatives in vision robotics and riblet processing. Beyond product sales, Nikon also provides maintenance for its precision equipment, offers various optical lenses including ophthalmic lenses and sport optics, and engages in logistical support and software development, furthering its century-long legacy of innovation in applied optics. Nikon was founded in Tokyo, Japan, in 1917.
