- Oceanic Wind Energy Inc. is a Canada-based renewable-energy development company focused on the planning, permitting, financing, construction and long-term operation of utility-scale offshore wind projects. The Company’s principal asset is the proposed Oceanic Wind Project in Hecate Strait, located in Coast Tsimshian territory off the northwestern coast of British Columbia, near Stephens Island and approximately 30 kilometres west of Prince Rupert. Its development activities include offshore wind-resource assessment; project design and engineering; Crown land tenure and regulatory permitting; environmental, community and Indigenous engagement; transmission-development planning; project financing; and the prospective sale and supply of renewable electricity to regional utilities, industrial customers, port-related developments, communities and green-hydrogen projects. The project is intended to harness the Hecate Strait’s high-quality wind resource to support British Columbia’s clean-energy, electrification, greenhouse-gas-reduction and energy-security objectives, with potential applications including electricity supply for northwestern British Columbia and renewable power for green-hydrogen production.
Oceanic Wind develops the Hecate Strait project in partnership with Coast Tsimshian Enterprises Ltd., a First Nations-affiliated development partner. In July 2025, the Company and Coast Tsimshian Enterprises jointly secured an Investigative Use Permit for the project’s initial development phase, targeting 600 MW to 700 MW of generating capacity. In May 2026, Oceanic Wind entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Ming Yang Smart Energy Group Limited to evaluate a strategic investment partnership for a larger Hecate Strait offshore wind development. Under the memorandum, Ming Yang considers potential equity investment, debt financing and strategic support for development, construction and long-term operation, with the parties assessing the size and scope of a project indicated at approximately 1.5 GW to 2.0 GW. The Company was founded in 1957, was formerly known as NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc., and is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
