Founded in 1845 and headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, the company operates primarily through six reporting segments: Netherlands Life, offering group and individual pension products as well as life insurance to SMEs and large corporates via brands including Nationale-Nederlanden Life, AZL and BeFrank; Netherlands Non-life, providing motor, fire, liability, transport, travel, disability, accident and health insurance to retail, self-employed, SME and corporate customers through Nationale-Nederlanden Non-life, ABN AMRO Insurance, Movir and OHRA; Insurance Europe, delivering life insurance, pensions and non-life products to retail, self-employed and SME customers in markets including Belgium, Spain, Poland, Greece, Hungary and Romania under NN and Nationale-Nederlanden brands; Japan Life, specializing in corporate-owned life insurance to SME owners and employees via independent agents and financial partners; Banking, through NN Bank which offers mortgage loans, savings, bank annuities, consumer lending and retail investments complementary to insurance products; and Other, encompassing Japan Closed Block variable annuities, reinsurance via NN Re and holding activities. NN Group serves individual, SME and corporate customers through tied agents, bancassurance partners, brokers and direct channels, with a strong focus on the Netherlands, Europe and Japan. Recent developments include the completion of the sale of its Turkish operations to Zurich Türkiye in January 2025 following regulatory approvals; finalization in October 2025 of a settlement with interest groups on unit-linked insurance products in the Netherlands, with 90% policyholder acceptance; a four-year title sponsorship agreement with Sports Organisation Le Champion for the Dam tot Damloop running event announced in 2024; a partnership with Macquarie Asset Management in February 2024 to finance climate-focused assets; the launch of the NN Social Innovation Startup Award in collaboration with Rubio Impact Ventures in 2024, with winners announced in 2025 including Punto Health; appointment of Guido Bosch as CEO of NN Bank effective August 2025 succeeding Marcel Zuidam; issuance of EUR 1 billion perpetual subordinated Tier 1 securities in March 2025; and strong first-half 2025 results reported in August 2025 with operating capital generation up 6% to EUR 1,020 million, driven by growth in Insurance Europe, Netherlands Non-life and Japan Life.
