Business
Clean Science and Technology Limited Clean Science and Technology Limited (NSE: CLEAN) is a fine and specialty chemicals manufacturer specializing in innovative, sustainable catalytic processes for producing high-value intermediates and performance chemicals. Incorporated in 2003 and headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra, India, the company operates four state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the Kurkumbh Industrial Area, with a wholly owned subsidiary, Clean Fino Chem Limited, housing the largest HALS production facility in India commercialized in March 2024. Its products serve diverse end-user industries including agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and feed, FMCG, polymers, and personal care, with 64% of revenues from exports to over 35 countries across China, Europe, Americas, India, and rest-of-world markets. Core products encompass performance chemicals such as Monomethyl Ether of Hydroquinone (MEHQ; world's largest capacity, used as polymerization inhibitor in acrylics and super absorbent polymers, agrochemical precursor), Butylated Hydroxy Anisole (BHA; world's largest capacity, antioxidant for food/feed), Ascorbyl Palmitate (AP; second largest globally, for infant food, cereals, cosmetics), and Tertiary Butyl Hydroquinone (TBHQ; oil stabilizer); pharma and agro intermediates including Guaiacol (second largest globally, API precursor for cough syrups, vanillin raw material), Dicyclohexyl Carbodiimide (DCC; second largest globally, anti-retroviral reagent), Para Benzoquinone (p-BQ; agro intermediate), 4-Methoxy Acetophenone (4-MAP; world's largest, UV blocker in sunscreens), Anisole (world's largest via vapor phase, perfume/pharma precursor), Veratrole (agro intermediate), and Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS 770, 701, etc.; India's largest, for polymer UV stabilization and water treatment); plus custom manufacturing and synthesis services for tailored intermediates, additives, solvents, and reagents. The company maintains global leadership in several categories through in-house R&D across 90 scientists in four labs, focusing on green chemistry competencies like continuous flow, vapor phase, tri-phasic, and fixed-bed reactions in hydroxylation, alkylation, oxidation, and catalysis. Recent developments include a Rs. 155 crore capex in H1 FY2025 primarily for expanding Clean Fino Chem Limited (CFCL) capacities, following its full acquisition of 100% stake in April 2025 and a Rs. 50 crore rights issue in June 2024 to bolster specialty chemicals growth. The company commercialized India's largest HALS plant in March 2024, secured Responsible Care certification for three years, and remains on track to launch a new pharma intermediate in Q3 FY2025, alongside ongoing R&D for performance chemicals and high-demand global products. These initiatives drove 26% YoY standalone revenue growth to Rs. 228 crore in Q2 FY2025 (42% EBITDA margin) and 21% H1 FY2025 growth, with performance chemicals (69% of H1 mix) leading volume expansion and diversified geography/product mixes enhancing resilience.
