Business
Nestlé S.A. is a Swiss multinational food and beverage company headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland, operating globally in over 185 countries since its founding in 1866. It manufactures and sells a wide range of products including powdered and liquid beverages (such as Nescafé, Nespresso, and Starbucks coffee through a global licensing deal); infant nutrition (Gerber, Nestlé Junior cereals); pet care products (Purina brands); culinary products and seasonings (Maggi); confectionery (KitKat, Smarties); bottled water (San Pellegrino, Perrier); vitamins and nutritional supplements (brands acquired from Bountiful Co., including Nature’s Bounty, Solgar, Osteo Bi-Flex, and Puritan’s Pride); and health science nutrition products (Aimmune Therapeutics offering treatments for peanut allergies). In recent major developments, Nestlé has restructured its water and premium drinks business into an independent global entity starting January 2025 and is exploring potential partnerships or deals for this division to enhance growth and distribution. It plans to reduce costs by at least CHF 2.8 billion by 2027 and is implementing a global headcount reduction plan. In 2025, Nestlé acquired key vitamin brands from Bountiful Co. for $5.75 billion to capitalize on rising demand for nutritional supplements. The company also launched around 40 new products in 2024, including expansions in coffee with new Nescafé and Starbucks flavors, a Maggi brand refresh with 14 new products, enhanced infant nutrition lines, and new pet care items. Additionally, Nestlé is expanding manufacturing capacity in India with investments between $723 million and $783 million through 2025. The company sold its Cremora dairy creamer business in South Africa in 2024 as part of strategic portfolio optimization. Nestlé announced executive leadership transitions with new CEO Philipp Navratil appointed in 2024 and a planned board chairman transition in 2025. Nestlé’s business segments include Zone Americas, Zone Europe, Middle East and North Africa, Zone Asia, Oceania, and Sub-Saharan Africa, Nestlé Waters, Nestlé Nutrition, and Other Businesses, positioning it as the world's largest food and beverage company by revenue, focused on consumer health, nutrition, and wellness across broad geographic markets.
