Origin Energy Limited (ASX:ORG; OTC:OGFGF) is an integrated energy company engaged in the exploration, production, generation and retailing of energy and energy-related products and services across Australia. The company produces natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), electricity from coal, gas, wind, solar and hydro sources; retails electricity, natural gas and LPG to residential, small business and commercial customers; and provides solar installation, battery storage, broadband and nbn services through its Octopus Energy Australia subsidiary. Origin Energy operates primarily in Australia, with assets including the Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) project on Curtis Island, Queensland; the Eraring Power Station in New South Wales; and renewable energy developments such as wind farms in South Australia and New South Wales. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Sydney, Australia, Origin Energy serves approximately 4.3 million customer accounts nationwide and targets residential, commercial and industrial segments in the electricity, gas and renewables markets. The company generates power through a diverse portfolio encompassing baseload coal-fired plants, peaking gas-fired facilities, and a growing renewables segment with over 2 GW of capacity in wind and solar projects. It also holds upstream interests in conventional gas fields in the Cooper Basin and Bass Strait, alongside LNG export capabilities via the APLNG venture with ConocoPhillips and Sinopec. In recent developments, Origin Energy completed the $1.5 billion acquisition of the remaining 27.5% interest in APLNG from ConocoPhillips in October 2024, gaining full ownership of the project and boosting its upstream earnings potential. The company launched its A$250 million Eraring Power Station extension in 2025, securing a three-year government support deal to keep the facility operational beyond its original closure date, ensuring energy reliability amid supply challenges. Additionally, Origin expanded its renewables pipeline with the 400 MW New England Solar Farm reaching full operation in early 2025 and announced strategic partnerships for green hydrogen projects, aligning with Australia's net-zero transition goals.
