Business
Associates First Capital Corporation operates as a diversified financial services company providing consumer lending, commercial financing, and related credit insurance products. The company structures its operations into two primary business segments: Consumer Finance and Commercial Finance. Through its Consumer Finance division, the company originates and services real estate secured loans, including home equity loans and first and second residential mortgages; personal unsecured installment loans; manufactured housing loans; retail sales financing contracts; credit card services; auto loans; and related credit life, credit disability, and involuntary unemployment insurance. Through its Commercial Finance division, the company provides heavy-duty truck and trailer financing; transportation equipment leasing; industrial equipment loans and leases; and vendor and dealer financing programs for commercial fleet operators and equipment dealers. Founded in 1918 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, the company historically expanded operations across the United States as well as international markets, including Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Originally spun off from Ford Motor Company, Associates First Capital Corporation was acquired by Citigroup Inc. in a strategic merger valued at approximately $31.1 billion, resulting in the integration of its operations and branch network into Citigroup's consumer and commercial lending platforms, primarily under the CitiFinancial brand.
