- Plant-Based Investment Corp. (CSE:PBIC, OTC:CWWBF) operates as a principal investment firm focused on the cannabis industry; it invests in public and private companies deriving revenues, earnings, or intellectual property value from plant-based sectors including the cannabis plant family and its compounds such as CBD, CBG, and CBN, hemp plants, terpenes, flavonoids, fungi encompassing medicinal, functional, and psychedelic varieties, superfoods, organic ingredients, specialty retail locations, functional medicine, and wellness clinics or treatment centers. The firm, formerly known as Cannabis Growth Opportunity Corp., was founded in 2017 and maintains headquarters in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; it primarily serves shareholders seeking long-term total returns through capital appreciation via an actively managed portfolio generated using fundamental analysis, bottom-up, and top-down stock picking approaches. Geographically, it targets opportunities in North America with holdings in public cannabis companies and related private entities. In recent developments, the company entered Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act proceedings in May 2023 amid filing delays for its 2022 annual financial statements, faced a management cease trade order in March 2023, saw director resignations including Sean Conacher in April 2023, and had its shares delisted from the Canadian Securities Exchange in June 2023; earlier, it completed the acquisition of CGOC Management Corp. in May 2022 and shifted strategic emphasis from active investing by declaring itself no longer investing as a principal firm.
