Business
Nihon Kohden Corporation manufactures, develops, sells, maintains, and provides consultation for medical electronic equipment and related systems worldwide. Founded in 1951 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the company operates in over 120 countries across Japan, the Americas, Europe, Asia, and other regions, serving hospitals, clinics, and research facilities with products focused on physiological measurement, patient monitoring, treatment, IT solutions, and laboratory equipment. Its core offerings include electroencephalographs, electrocardiographs, evoked potential/EMG measuring instruments, and polygraphs for cath-labs; patient monitoring systems for emergency rooms, operating rooms, intensive care units, general wards, transport, remote ICU, central nursing, and ambulatory telemetry; defibrillators and automated external defibrillators; imported and in-house ventilators, pacemakers, and ICDs; clinical information systems and diagnostic IT platforms for laboratories, operating rooms, and wards; blood cell counters with reagents; and clinical chemistry analyzers measuring C-reactive protein and HbA1c. In late 2024, Nihon Kohden acquired a 71.4% stake in NeuroAdvanced Corp., parent of Ad-Tech Medical Instrument Corporation, for approximately ¥16 billion to expand its neurology electrode portfolio for epilepsy care, forming a joint venture with seller ArchiMed; in 2025, it agreed to acquire the remaining 28.6% stake for ¥7.4 billion, achieving full ownership. The company launched Nihon Kohden Payment Solutions in May 2025, offering flexible financing terms from 12 to 60 months for healthcare providers to acquire monitoring and diagnostic equipment. It is constructing a new plant in Tsurugashima City, with operations planned to start in 2026 following PLM/MES system implementation completed in October 2025, as part of investments totaling around ¥11 billion.
