In January 2024, Outokumpu completed a partnership with CRONIMET by acquiring a 10% minority stake in CRONIMET North-East GmbH to enhance regional scrap sourcing, circularity and CO2 reduction in Northeastern Europe. In June 2025, the company launched its EVOLVE strategy for 2026-2030, emphasizing growth in advanced materials, alloys and low-CO2 metals from its Kemi chrome mine, alongside plans for a EUR 200 million annealing and pickling line in Tornio, Finland, and potential high-nickel alloys expansion in Avesta, Sweden. In October 2025, Outokumpu committed approximately USD 45 million to a U.S. pilot plant in New Hampshire for chromium metal and enriched ferrochrome production, targeting operations in H1 2027 and an industrial-scale facility by 2029-2030.
