Business
Pacific Basin Shipping Limited Pacific Basin Shipping Limited is a leading owner and operator of modern Handysize and Supramax dry bulk vessels, providing dry bulk shipping services to over 600 industrial producers, traders and users of commodities worldwide through spot and long-term cargo contracts; the company transports major and minor bulks including grains, ores, logs and forest products, bauxite, sugar, concentrates, cement and clinkers, coal and coke, fertilizers, alumina, steel products, pet-coke, salt, sand and gypsum, and scrap metal; it also offers ancillary services such as shipping consulting, crewing, secretarial support, ocean shipping, ship agency, and vessel operation and management. Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Hong Kong with strategic leadership in Singapore, Pacific Basin maintains a global network of 14 offices across six continents and employs approximately 4,300 seafarers and 406 onshore staff to support its operations. The company owns 108 vessels and operates around 158 more under charter, comprising a fleet of approximately 266 Handysize and Supramax ships built primarily in Japan for superior reliability, fuel efficiency and longevity, enabling service to over 500 loading ports internationally with a focus on minor bulk expertise, high fleet utilization and competitive time-charter equivalent earnings. In late 2024, Pacific Basin placed its first newbuilding order since 2014 by signing agreements with Japanese partners Nihon Shipyard Co., Ltd., Imabari Shipbuilding and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. for four 64,000 dwt dual-fuel low-emission Ultramax vessels capable of running on green methanol or fuel oil, marking a key milestone in its net zero emissions target by 2050 and enhancing fleet renewal through growth optionality including additional low-emission vessel orders or long-term charters with purchase options; it also entered a memorandum of understanding with Towngas in June 2025 for green methanol supply to bolster access to alternative fuels, while continuing disciplined acquisitions of modern second-hand vessels and divestitures of older, less efficient Handysize ships as part of its sustainability and operational efficiency strategy. Listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (stock code: 2343) since 2004, Pacific Basin emphasizes robust cost control, conservative gearing, strong corporate governance and sustainability practices including seafarer safety, environmental responsibility and carbon efficiency.
