Business
Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. is a leading provider of nuclear services and waste management solutions across the United States and internationally. The company delivers its specialized capabilities through distinct operational divisions: Treatment, Services, and Medical. The Treatment segment is dedicated to processing and disposing of nuclear, low-level radioactive, mixed, hazardous, and non-hazardous waste streams via its network of permitted treatment and storage facilities. This division also actively engages in research to develop advanced techniques for managing challenging waste materials, including innovative solutions for PFAS destruction such as its proprietary Perma-FAS™ technology. The Services segment offers a broad spectrum of technical support, encompassing professional radiological surveys, comprehensive occupational safety and health programs, and expert consulting. Its offerings extend to engineering, project management, on-site waste management, environmental remediation, and complex decontamination and decommissioning (D&D) field services. Furthermore, this segment provides integrated nuclear services covering engineering, specialized D&D, construction, logistics, and waste transportation and disposal, along with remediating nuclear licensed and legacy sites. It also maintains a laboratory for the calibration and maintenance of health physics and environmental instrumentation. Through its Perma-Fix Medical subsidiary, the company is involved in ongoing research and development aimed at producing medical isotopes, particularly Technetium-99m (Tc-99m), utilizing a unique micro-porous composite material (MPCM) resin process designed to address global supply shortages without relying on highly enriched uranium. Perma-Fix provides these essential services to a diverse clientele, including research institutions, commercial enterprises, public utilities, and various governmental agencies, often through direct engagement or strategic partnerships. The company was established in 1990 and maintains its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
