PPL Corporation is an energy and utility holding company headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania, founded in 1920. The company operates primarily in the United States, serving approximately 3.6 million customers with electricity and natural gas through its regulated utilities in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and other regions. PPL’s core products and services include electric distribution; electric transmission; natural gas distribution and transmission; and regulated electric generation. The company manages over 48,000 miles of power lines and more than 33,000 miles of electric and gas distribution and transmission lines, with a regulated generation capacity of around 7,500 MW. Its principal subsidiaries include PPL Electric Utilities, which serves over 1.4 million customers in Pennsylvania, and Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company serving customers in Kentucky. In recent years, PPL Corporation has strategically shifted to focus more on the utility of the future by investing heavily in infrastructure modernization, smart grid technology, and clean energy integration. The company has committed $20 billion in infrastructure investments through 2028 to enhance grid resilience, reliability, and affordability while reducing its environmental impact. PPL has completed major upgrades such as replacing meters with advanced smart meters and implementing automation and data science solutions to improve operational efficiency and customer outcomes. In 2024, PPL reported $3.1 billion in capital investments focused on grid strengthening and cleaner energy mix initiatives. The company also targets annual operational and maintenance efficiencies of over $150 million as part of its transformation efforts. Additionally, PPL has increased its planned infrastructure investment growth rate to support rising energy demand, including a strategic pivot to address demand from data centers and gas-fired combined-cycle generation as part of its cleaner energy transition strategy. PPL continues to rank highly in customer satisfaction, safety, reliability, and cost efficiency across its operating regions. Its business segments include electric and gas distribution and transmission services and regulated generation, with a strong presence in the U.S. utility sector. The company emphasizes advancing sustainable energy solutions and integrating distributed energy resources like renewables and energy storage to meet evolving energy needs. PPL is publicly traded on the NYSE under the ticker symbol PPL and is a member of the S&P 500 index.
