Business
Prairie Operating Co. (Nasdaq: PROP) is a Houston-based independent energy company engaged in the acquisition, development, and production of crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids (NGLs) primarily in the oil- and liquids-rich Denver-Julesburg (DJ) Basin in Colorado, with a focus on the Niobrara and Codell formations. The company holds approximately 60,000 net acres in the DJ Basin following recent expansions; it operates 19 employees and emphasizes responsible development, capital discipline, sustainable cash flow generation, and environmentally responsible execution to meet growing energy demands. Founded in 2001 and headquartered at 55 Waugh Drive, Suite 400, Houston, Texas, Prairie targets unconventional reservoirs through exploration and production activities, including drilled but uncompleted (DUC) wells and permitted drilling locations. Core operations encompass the exploration, development, and production of oil, natural gas, and NGLs from leasehold interests in the DJ Basin; management of producing assets with high working interests; integration of acquired inventory for immediate production and long-term growth; and execution of drilling programs such as the Opal/Coalbank pad, which delivered average initial production rates exceeding 525 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) over the first 30 days across nine wells. Recent strategic developments include the August 2025 closing of two off-market bolt-on acquisitions adding approximately 16,000 net acres, significant new inventory, and permitted locations funded by existing working capital and expected to be immediately accretive; the July 2025 acquisition of approximately 11,000 net acres from Edge Energy II LLC for $12.5 million in cash via credit facility, expanding the DJ Basin footprint non-dilutively with immediate cash flow and development commencing on the Simpson pad; and ongoing 2025 drilling schedules targeting 41 wells turned in line, underscoring disciplined capital allocation and opportunistic consolidation.
