Business
Rigel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. operates as a biotechnology enterprise dedicated to identifying and advancing small molecule therapeutics for hematologic conditions, various cancers, and uncommon immune system diseases. The company offers TAVALISSE (fostamatinib disodium hexahydrate), an oral spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) inhibitor approved for adult patients with chronic immune thrombocytopenia who have shown an inadequate response to prior treatments. Fostamatinib is also being explored in a Phase 1 study for sickle cell disease, supported by the National Institutes of Health. In its commercial portfolio, Rigel includes REZLIDHIA (olutasidenib) for relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia featuring IDH1 mutations, and GAVRETO (pralsetinib), which addresses metastatic RET fusion-positive non-small cell lung cancer and certain advanced thyroid cancers. The pipeline also features R289, an oral interleukin receptor associated kinase 1/4 inhibitor, currently undergoing a Phase 1b clinical trial in patients with relapsed or refractory lower-risk myelodysplastic syndrome, having recently initiated its dose expansion phase. This candidate has received both Orphan Drug Designation and Fast Track designation from the FDA. Furthermore, R552, a receptor-interacting serine/threonine-protein kinase 1 inhibitor, is progressing into Phase 2 development for autoimmune and inflammatory indications, including psoriasis, under a collaborative arrangement with Eli Lilly and Company, which also oversees the advancement of CNS-penetrant RIPK1 inhibitors. Rigel Pharmaceuticals maintains strategic licensing and collaboration agreements, including those for TAVALISSE with Kissei Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. for markets in Asia, and with Grifols, S.A. for commercialization across Europe and Turkey. The company, which commenced operations in 1996, is headquartered in South San Francisco, California. Rigel reported strong financial performance in 2025, with an updated full-year revenue guidance reflecting significant growth driven by its product sales.
