Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Newton, Massachusetts, the company manages a diverse portfolio spanning office, industrial, healthcare, retail, hospitality, life science, and multifamily sectors, targeting institutional investors and leveraging vertical integration for buying, selling, financing, and operating commercial real estate. Recent developments include the 2023 acquisition of Carroll, an Atlanta-based multifamily property manager with over 28,000 units primarily in Sun Belt markets, for $80 million, adding about $7 billion in assets under management and expanding its private capital business; in 2024, it acquired The Ridge at Lowry, a 240-unit multifamily property in Denver; and it announced Vertex Pharmaceuticals' 15-year lease renewal for 1.1 million square feet in Boston's Seaport District.
