Business
Star Bulk Carriers Corp. operates as a global shipping company specializing in the seaborne transportation of dry bulk cargoes worldwide. The company owns and operates a diversified fleet of 151 modern dry bulk vessels, including Newcastlemax, Capesize, Post Panamax, Kamsarmax, Panamax, Ultramax, and Supramax vessels, with a total carrying capacity exceeding 14.6 million deadweight tons (DWT). Its fleet transports a variety of dry bulk commodities, including major bulks such as iron ore, coal, grain, and minor bulks including bauxite, fertilizers, phosphate, and steel products. Star Bulk’s vessels serve commodity traders, mining companies, agricultural firms, steel producers, and construction companies, delivering cargo efficiently and safely across global shipping routes. Founded in 2006, the company is headquartered in Marousi, Greece. In recent strategic developments, Star Bulk completed a significant all-stock merger with Eagle Bulk Shipping in April 2024, expanding its market presence and fleet capacity by adding Eagle’s geared bulkers, thereby enhancing its operational scale and technical capabilities. Following the merger, Star Bulk continues to optimize its fleet through the sale of older vessels and strategic acquisitions, including the agreement to acquire three 82,000 DWT Kamsarmax newbuilding vessels slated for delivery in the third quarter of 2026. The company also undertook substantial share repurchase programs authorized at $100 million and secured new revolving credit facilities totaling $115 million, bolstering liquidity above $520 million to support ongoing growth and operational flexibility. Additionally, Star Bulk recently published its 2024 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report outlining its sustainability strategy and progress on long-term environmental goals. Star Bulk maintains a robust financial profile, reporting quarterly dividends and navigating challenging dry bulk market conditions with a focus on cost efficiency, risk management, and sustainability compliance, including investments in eco-friendly technologies. It operates globally, leveraging its extensive and modern fleet to meet diversified cargo transportation needs in the dry bulk shipping industry, positioning itself as one of the top global performers in safety and operational risk ratings.
