Business
Sigma Lithium Corporation engages in the exploration, development, mining, and production of lithium deposits in Brazil to supply the electric vehicle battery materials supply chain. The company produces Quintuple Zero Green Lithium, a high-purity chemical-grade lithium oxide concentrate characterized by zero coal power, zero tailings dams, zero potable water usage, zero hazardous chemicals, and zero accidents; it operates a fully integrated hard-rock lithium mining and beneficiation complex at its 100% owned Grota do Cirilo project, including the Genipapo, Santa Clara, and São José properties covering approximately 185 square kilometers in the Araçuaí and Itinga regions of Minas Gerais state. The Greentech Industrial Lithium Plant features a three-stage crushing circuit, dense media separation, and dry-stacking tailings management, with Phase 1 nameplate capacity of 270,000 tonnes per annum of lithium oxide concentrate (approximately 37,000-40,000 tonnes LCE) following commissioning in 2023; mining operations utilize two pits with a strategy to preserve local water resources. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil, with initial roots in Vancouver, Canada, Sigma Lithium Corporation serves global electric vehicle manufacturers and battery producers from its operations in one of the world's premier mining jurisdictions. The company maintains measured, indicated, and inferred resources of 109 million tonnes at 1.4% lithium oxide, supporting over 20 years of operations across multiple phases, with proven and probable reserves of 77 million tonnes. It employs sustainable practices including 100% renewable power, treated sewage-grade water, and net-zero carbon emissions. In recent developments, Sigma Lithium Corporation approved and commenced construction of its Phase 2 expansion in 2024, adding a second plant to nearly double capacity to 520,000 tonnes per annum of lithium oxide concentrate (approximately 77,000-80,000 tonnes LCE) through duplicated dense media separation and crushing modules; this follows a 63% increase in mineral reserves and a 27% resource expansion earlier in the year. The company secured up to US$100 million in senior secured pre-export debt financing and a USD 100 million credit line from Brazil's BNDES to fund the expansion and operations through 2025. Phase 1 achieved commercial production in Q2 2023, exceeded 4Q2024 targets with 75,000 tonnes produced, and positioned for over 270,000 tonnes in 2025, alongside partnerships such as Nokia and Alcon for private wireless networks at the site.
