Business
Standard Lithium Ltd. (TSXV:SLI, NYSE:SLI) is a Canada-based near-commercial lithium development company focused on the sustainable extraction and production of battery-quality lithium carbonate from high-grade lithium-brine resources in the United States. The company employs its proprietary, fully integrated Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) process, including the LiSTR technology, to selectively extract lithium from brine while minimizing environmental impact and maximizing efficiency; it targets production of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide for battery manufacturers and the electric vehicle industry. Its principal projects encompass the South West Arkansas (SWA) Project, a greenfield development in Lafayette and Columbia counties, Arkansas, with Phase 1 capacity of 22,500 tonnes per year of battery-quality lithium carbonate and one of North America's highest lithium concentrations up to 616 mg/L; the Phase 1A Project, a brownfield initiative in partnership with LANXESS Corporation on the Smackover Formation in southern Arkansas; the Franklin Project and other East Texas Properties on the Smackover Formation in Texas, featuring record lithium concentrations up to 806 mg/L and potential multi-phase capacity; and additional interests in lithium-brine leases in the Mojave Desert, California. Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, the company operates primarily in the Smackover Formation across Arkansas and Texas, leveraging established brine processing infrastructure and targeting first production from SWA Phase 1 in 2026. Recent developments include finalizing a US$225 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy in January 2025 for SWA Phase 1 construction through its joint venture SWA Lithium LLC with partner Equinor ASA; completing a definitive feasibility study for the SWA Project in Q3 2025, validating low first-quartile operating costs and positioning it as a transparency project on the Federal Permitting Dashboard; releasing a maiden inferred resource for the Franklin Project in East Texas; closing an upsized $130 million public equity offering to fund SWA and East Texas advancements; advancing front-end engineering design and targeting final investment decision for SWA by year-end 2025; and partnering with Aquatech following its acquisition of Koch Technology Solutions' DLE business to enhance flowsheet and technology development.
