Business
Summit Bancshares, Inc. (OTC: SMAL) operates as the holding company for Summit Bank, which provides commercial credit and a broad range of banking services to small and mid-sized businesses, professionals, and individuals in California; core offerings include checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit, commercial real estate loans, land development and construction loans, commercial and consumer loans, and letters of credit. The bank serves professional firms such as physicians, attorneys, accountants, real estate developers, retailers, service firms, wholesalers, and distributors through branches in Oakland, Emeryville, and Walnut Creek. Founded in 1982 and headquartered at 2969 Broadway in Oakland, California, Summit Bancshares focuses on the regional banking sector within the financial services industry. In a major strategic development, San Francisco Federal Credit Union announced in 2025 its all-cash acquisition of Summit Bank, expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, to expand geographically into Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, enhance commercial banking capabilities, and integrate Summit Bank's three branches into a broader 10-branch Bay Area network. The company also declared a special cash dividend of $0.43 per share in April 2025 to mark its 43rd anniversary, replacing the standard quarterly dividend, and increased its regular quarterly dividend to $0.12 per share in January 2025.
