Business
Sonoco Products Company manufactures a diversified range of packaging solutions including consumer packaging, industrial products, protective packaging, and packaging supply chain services. Its product portfolio comprises metal cans (food cans, aerosol cans, metal can ends and lids); rigid paperboard containers; flexible packaging; blow-molded plastic containers; engineered molded and extruded plastic products; tubes, cores and fiber concrete columns under the Sonotube brand; high-performance tubes and cores for paper, textiles, specialty films, and wound products; and uncoated recycled paperboard. The company serves multiple markets including food and powdered beverages, household products, beauty and personal care, healthcare, electronics and appliances, construction, and textiles. Sonoco operates globally with a significant presence in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific regions. Founded in 1899, Sonoco is headquartered in Hartsville, South Carolina. Recently, Sonoco has undergone major strategic changes including a business restructuring to consolidate its metal packaging and rigid paper container segments under two geographic units: Consumer Packaging for EMEA/APAC and the Americas, with new segment leadership appointments. The company completed the divestiture of its ThermoSafe temperature-controlled packaging business to Arsenal Capital Partners for up to $725 million in October 2025. Sonoco also announced a $30 million capital investment to expand adhesives and sealants capacity. Its ongoing operational realignments aim to streamline consumer packaging operations, integrate rigid paper containers, closures, and flexible packaging, improve efficiency, reduce complexity, and enhance customer service. These actions align with Sonoco's commitment to sustainability and improving operating margins amid evolving market dynamics. Recent leadership changes include the hiring of Paul Joachimczyk as CFO in mid-2025 following a leadership shakeup. Sonoco continues focusing on innovation and growth in non-seasonal product areas, including pet food and seafood packaging expansion in Eastern Europe.
