Business
Swiss Re AG (SSREY), founded in 1863 and headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, operates as one of the world's leading providers of reinsurance, insurance and other insurance-based risk transfer solutions through a global network of around 70 offices in 29 countries. The company underwrites property and casualty reinsurance including natural catastrophe, engineering, marine, aviation and liability coverages; life and health reinsurance encompassing mortality, morbidity, longevity and healthcare risks; and corporate solutions offering primary insurance products such as commercial property, casualty, cyber, engineering and specialty lines to mid- and large-sized enterprises. It also provides insurance-linked securities, parametric insurance, climate risk analytics and asset management services for fixed-income, equity and alternative investments including catastrophe bonds and sidecars, serving insurers, corporations, governments and institutional investors across regions including Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. In 2024, Swiss Re appointed Andreas Berger as Group CEO effective July 1, replacing Christian Mumenthaler; consolidated its insurance-linked securities investment management operations under the Swiss Re Insurance-Linked Investment Advisors Corporation (SRILIAC) brand led by Mariagiovanna Guatteri to streamline offerings like the Core Nat Cat Fund and enable hybrid ILS products; and entered a long-term strategic partnership with GAM Investments whereby SRILIAC became co-investment manager for GAM's USD 3 billion ILS fund range including the GAM Star Cat Bond UCITS Fund effective May 2025, while managing approximately USD 5 billion in ILS assets. The company reported net income of USD 4.0 billion for the first nine months of 2025 with return on investment at 4.1%, and progressed divestitures of its iptiQ digital platform's European P&C business to Allianz Direct and Australian operations to Hannover Re as part of a strategic retreat from sub-scale ventures.
