Business
STMicroelectronics N.V. (STM) designs, develops, manufactures and markets semiconductor integrated circuits and discrete devices worldwide, serving the automotive, industrial, personal electronics, telecommunications and computer sectors; the company offers microcontrollers including the STM32 and STM32V8 series with advanced 18nm FD-SOI technology; analog and power management ICs such as power discretes, modules and intelligent power switches for motor control and energy efficiency; MEMS and sensors for motion, pressure, environmental monitoring and automotive safety applications including tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS); connectivity solutions encompassing secure elements, NFC chips for Matter protocol integration and silicon photonics platforms like PIC100 supporting 800Gbps and 1.6Tbps optical interconnects for AI data centers; application processors, digital consumer ICs, RF products and imaging solutions; as well as protection devices, signal conditioning and energy management components for IoT, smart home, wearables and industrial automation. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland with the holding company in Amsterdam, Netherlands, STMicroelectronics was formed in 1987 through the merger of Italian SGS Microelettronica and French Thomson Semiconducteurs and operates manufacturing facilities, R&D centers and sales offices across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific including China and the United States. The company maintains an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) model encompassing design, wafer fabrication on silicon and silicon carbide, assembly, testing and packaging. In recent developments, STMicroelectronics enters a definitive agreement in 2025 to acquire NXP Semiconductors' MEMS sensors business for up to $950 million in cash, including $900 million upfront, to bolster its automotive safety, industrial and consumer sensor portfolio with immediately accretive revenues of about $300 million from 2024; it launches the industry's first 18nm microcontroller STM32V8 with phase-change embedded memory for high-performance applications; introduces PIC100 silicon photonics chip in collaboration with Amazon Web Services for advanced data center interconnects; expands the STM32 Model Zoo for AI on microcontrollers; and invests in Innoscience's IPO to advance gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor technologies while pursuing carbon neutrality in scopes 1 and 2 emissions and 100% renewable electricity by 2027.
