STMicroelectronics N.V. designs, develops, manufactures and markets a broad portfolio of semiconductor products worldwide, including discrete and power transistors such as silicon-carbide and gallium-nitride diodes and MOSFETs, thyristors, triacs, and protection ICs; MEMS sensors and microactuators for motion, environmental sensing, proximity, ranging via FlightSense Time-of-Flight technology, and thin-film piezoelectric applications; analog, industrial and power conversion ICs encompassing Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS technology, STSPIN motor drivers for brushed DC, stepper and brushless DC motors, FingerTip touch-screen controllers, wireless connectivity solutions for Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy and sub-1GHz networks; general-purpose microcontrollers from 8-bit STM8 to 32-bit Arm Cortex-M based STM32 series; secure microcontrollers for smartcards, Trusted Platform Modules, Secure Elements and NFC controllers; memories including serial EEPROMs, NFC/RFID tags and readers, battery-backed NVRAMs; and advanced digital RF mmW solutions for 5G and satellite communications, serving automotive, industrial, personal electronics, communications equipment, computers, peripherals and IoT applications. Founded in 1987 through the merger of SGS Microelettronica and Thomson Semiconducteurs, the company maintains administrative headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, with the holding company registered in Amsterdam, Netherlands; regional headquarters in Coppell, Texas for the US, Singapore for Asia-Pacific, Tokyo for Japan and Korea, and Shanghai for Greater China; and manufacturing, design and assembly facilities across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas. STMicroelectronics operates through segments including Automotive and Discrete Group for automotive ICs, power transistors and discretes; Analog, MEMS and Sensors Group for low-power analog ICs, smart power products, touch controllers, MEMS and sensors; and Microcontrollers and Digital ICs Group for general-purpose and secure microcontrollers plus EEPROM memories, targeting customers in electric vehicles, smart mobility, power management, cloud-connected autonomous devices, Industry 4.0, consumer wearables, smartphones and industrial automation. In July 2025, STMicroelectronics announced the planned acquisition of NXP Semiconductors N.V. NXP Semiconductors N.V.'s MEMS sensors business for up to US$950 million in cash, comprising US$900 million upfront and US$50 million contingent on technical milestones, to enhance its sensors portfolio with complementary automotive safety, industrial motion and pressure sensor technologies, IP and R&D capabilities; the transaction, accretive to gross and operating margins, targets closure in the first half of 2026 subject to regulatory approvals and leverages ST's integrated device manufacturer model for faster innovation across automotive, industrial and consumer markets. The company continues common share repurchase programs, completing transactions such as 560,000 shares for €11.6 million in early November 2025, alongside ongoing R&D investments exceeding 9,000 employees to advance smart driving, energy efficiency and edge AI solutions.
