Business
Gjensidige Forsikring ASA is a leading Norwegian general insurance company operating primarily in the Nordic and Baltic regions, including Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. Founded in 1922 and headquartered in Oslo, Norway, Gjensidige offers a wide array of insurance products and services including motor insurance; home, vacation home, and personal property insurance; boat and valuables insurance; life and health insurance; pet insurance; travel and student abroad insurance; as well as youth insurance. The company also provides tailored insurance solutions for commercial, agricultural, and municipal sectors. In Norway, Gjensidige additionally offers pension and savings plans. The company extends mobility services through its Flyt and REDGO brands. Gjensidige’s business is structured across several segments: General Insurance Private, General Insurance Commercial, General Insurance Denmark, General Insurance Sweden, General Insurance Baltics, and Pension. These segments cover a broad spectrum of insurance needs, including property, accident, health, and pure risk life insurance with durations typically up to one year, predominantly in group life insurance. Gjensidige’s general insurance operations combine property and casualty coverage with accident and health insurance offerings catering to both private individuals and businesses. Recent major company changes include a strategic reorganization announced in 2023 to strengthen operations and accelerate growth in the Nordic and Baltic insurance markets. This reorganization introduced three new business areas—Private, Commercial, and Claims—and created dedicated staff areas focused on strategy, innovation, merger and acquisition activities, people, communication, brand, and sustainability. In 2025, Gjensidige completed the acquisition of a 21.8% stake in Buysure AS, a move aimed at bolstering its digital capabilities and market reach. The company continues to enhance its sustainability initiatives, committing to significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning to electric vehicles and improving energy efficiency. Gjensidige also advances its product portfolio with an emphasis on sustainable pension profiles and insurance products aligned with EU taxonomy criteria. Gjensidige is widely recognized for its strong customer orientation, expertise in pricing, risk assessment, claims settlement, and industry-leading cost efficiency, serving approximately one million customers through 36 branch offices in Norway and its international operations. The group employs around 4,664 people across six countries and remains focused on profitable organic growth and market consolidation within its core markets. Overall, Gjensidige Forsikring ASA operates as a comprehensive insurance service provider with an extensive product range encompassing general insurance, life and health insurance, pensions, savings solutions, and mobility services, complemented by strategic organizational and investment initiatives designed to strengthen its leadership in the Nordic and Baltic insurance markets.
