Business
Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (5541.T) manufactures and sells ferronickel products and related byproducts primarily for the stainless steel industry. The company produces ferronickel in granular shot and 20kg ingot forms smelted in one of the world's largest electric furnaces at its Hachinohe smelting facility; ferronickel slag branded as Pamco Crustone, an artificial stone used as a civil engineering material with high freeze-thaw resistance; and engages in gas business operations alongside recycling activities. It operates through nickel, gas, and other segments, sourcing nickel ore mainly from Pacific region tropical islands and serving major customers including Nippon Steel Corporation in markets across Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, and India. Established on December 1, 1949, as Nisso Steel Co., Ltd. and renamed Pacific Metals in January 1970, the company maintains headquarters at the Tokyo Head Office in Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, with its primary manufacturing works in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture; it also operates offices in the Philippines and Jakarta, Indonesia. In recent strategic developments, Pacific Metals formulated PAMCOvision2031 in April 2025, a medium- to long-term strategy from fiscal year 2025 to 2031 aimed at business growth and sustainability; introduced a dividend policy incorporating a DOE indicator with revised forecasts in February 2025; appointed Kazuo Iwadate as president in June 2025 alongside other officer changes in May 2025; and completed restricted stock compensation via treasury share disposal in July 2025. The company continues collaboration with The Metals Company on processing deep-sea polymetallic nodules at its Hachinohe facility, achieving commercial-scale calcination milestones in 2024 to support feasibility studies for battery metals production.
