Business
Sysco Corporation, the world's largest broadline foodservice distributor, markets, sells and distributes a comprehensive range of food products and related supplies to restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments, sports and entertainment venues and other foodservice customers worldwide; its core offerings encompass fresh produce, custom cuts of meat, high-quality seafood, poultry, eggs, grocery items, frozen foods, prepared meals, imported specialties, non-food products including paper goods and disposables, foodservice equipment, kitchen utensils, dining room supplies and custom kitchen design and build services through specialty divisions such as FreshPoint for produce and Edward Don & Company for equipment and supplies. Founded in 1969 through the consolidation of nine regional foodservice companies and headquartered in Houston, Texas, Sysco operates approximately 340 distribution centers across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Ireland, Bahamas, Costa Rica and Mexico, employing around 76,000 people and serving 730,000 customer locations with next-day delivery capabilities in key markets. In recent developments, Sysco completed the acquisition of Edward Don & Company in November 2023 for approximately $970 million, establishing a standalone specialty division that enhances its equipment and supplies portfolio with over 1.4 million square feet of distribution space and design capabilities; the company acquired Campbells Prime Meat, a leading Scottish specialty meat distributor, and BIX Produce during fiscal 2025 to bolster its product offerings and regional presence; additionally, Sysco formed a strategic partnership with Square in December 2024 to co-market advanced digital tools including payment processing, ordering and management systems to its restaurant customers through the Sysco Restaurant Solutions program, offering hardware credits and processing fee rebates; these initiatives support Sysco's Recipe for Growth strategy amid projected fiscal 2026 net sales of $84 billion to $85 billion.
