Founded in 1995 and headquartered in Shanghai, China, Shanghai STEP Electric Corporation is a recognized leader in industrial automation and robotics. Notably, it ranks second globally in elevator controller shipments and fourth globally in SCARA robot shipments, holding a leading position in proprietary autonomous control technology within the industrial automation sector. In February 2025, Haier Group acquired a 10% equity stake and 19.24% voting rights in Shanghai STEP Electric, becoming its indirect controlling shareholder. Haier subsequently planned to increase its holding to 26.83% through subscribing to newly issued shares. This strategic investment aims to integrate Haier’s global supply chain, digital marketing, lean management, and brand resources with STEP’s expertise, thereby accelerating STEP’s market leadership in industrial automation. The partnership leverages Haier’s COSMOPlat platform, enhancing STEP’s intelligent manufacturing solutions with advanced big data analytics, connectivity, and AI-driven models, supporting Industry 4.0 adoption. Shanghai STEP Electric operates in three key segments: control and drive systems, robotics, and elevator control solutions. It maintains significant market presence across China and overseas markets and comprises subsidiaries such as STEP Software Technology Co., Ltd., which provides customized intelligent management software including e-ordering, networking, and remote monitoring services. The company’s operations and recent strategic alliance with Haier underscore its commitment to advancing industrial internet technologies, expanding intelligent manufacturing capabilities, and consolidating its position as a major player in the evolving global industrial automation industry.
