Business
AT&T Inc. AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) provides telecommunications, media, and technology services worldwide. The company operates primarily through its Communications segment, which offers wireless voice and data communications services, including nationwide 5G mobile network access under brands such as AT&T, Cricket, AT&T PREPAID, and AT&T Fiber; broadband fiber internet and legacy telephony voice services to residential customers; and advanced business solutions encompassing data, voice, security, cloud services, outsourcing, managed and professional services, and customer premises equipment for multinational corporations, small and mid-sized businesses, governmental entities, and wholesale customers. AT&T also markets handsets, wireless data cards, computing devices, carrying cases, and hands-free accessories through company-owned stores, agents, and third-party retailers; operates the FirstNet public safety network serving over 28,000 U.S. agencies; and provides Latin America wireless services in Mexico under AT&T and Unefon brands, alongside video services in the region. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and originally incorporated in 1983 as SBC Communications before adopting the AT&T name in 2005, the company maintains extensive geographic operations across the United States, Mexico, and Latin America, targeting consumers, businesses, first responders, and public sector clients with a focus on bridging the digital divide through network expansions and affordable connectivity initiatives. Recently, AT&T agreed to acquire approximately 30 MHz of nationwide 3.45 GHz mid-band spectrum and 20 MHz of 600 MHz low-band spectrum licenses from EchoStar for approximately $23 billion in cash, enhancing its 5G portfolio across over 400 U.S. markets and accelerating deployment of advanced fixed wireless home internet services like AT&T Internet Air to support converged wireless and fiber subscriber growth; the deal, expected to close in mid-2026 pending regulatory approvals, includes an enhanced long-term wholesale network services agreement allowing EchoStar to continue operations under the Boost Mobile brand. AT&T also outlined a multi-year strategic plan in late 2024 to expand its fiber broadband network to over 50 million locations, modernize its wireless infrastructure with annual capital investments around $22 billion through 2027, and return more than $40 billion to shareholders via dividends and repurchases, including an initial $10 billion share repurchase authorization.
