Founded in 1960 and headquartered in Thousand Oaks, California, Teledyne operates primarily in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Western and Northern Europe through four major segments—Digital Imaging, Instrumentation, Engineered Systems, and Aerospace and Defense Electronics—with numerous subsidiaries including Teledyne DALSA, Teledyne FLIR, Teledyne Qioptiq, Teledyne e2v, and Teledyne Marine. The company differentiates through a customer- and company-sponsored applied research center that augments product development and emphasizes operational excellence via targeted acquisitions and internal innovation. Recent major changes include the completion of the acquisition of select aerospace and defense electronics businesses from Excelitas Technologies, including the Qioptiq brand, for approximately $710 million in February 2025; the acquisition of Micropac Industries in December 2024 to enhance military electronics capabilities; the acquisition of Adimec Advanced Imaging in March 2025 for advanced imaging technologies; and the acquisition of TransponderTech from Saab in November 2025 to bolster marine navigation offerings under Teledyne FLIR brands.
