Business
Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (9201.T) operates as Japan's leading full-service international airline, providing scheduled and non-scheduled passenger air transportation services; cargo and mail transport; airport passenger services; ground handling; aircraft maintenance; passenger sales; and airport peripheral businesses, complemented by mileage programs, lifestyle services, air mobility initiatives, contract business, travel planning, and regional revitalization efforts. The company serves domestic routes across Japan and international destinations in Asia, Oceania, the Americas, and Europe through a modern fleet of approximately 151 mainline aircraft, including Boeing 737-800s, 767-300ERs, 777-300ERs, 787-8s and 787-9s, Airbus A350-900s and A350-1000s, plus three Boeing 767-300BCF freighters for cargo operations, with subsidiaries handling regional flights. Founded on August 1, 1951, and headquartered at Nomura Real Estate Bldg., 2-4-11 Higashi-Shinagawa, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, Japan, it employs 38,433 consolidated staff as of March 31, 2025, and targets premium travelers, cargo shippers, and aviation partners worldwide. In recent developments, Japan Airlines finalized a firm order in July 2024 for 20 additional Airbus A350-900 widebody aircraft in international configuration and 11 A321neo single-aisle jets for domestic replacement of Boeing 767-300ERs, following a March 2024 commitment for 42 aircraft including 21 A350-900s and 10 Boeing 787-9s to expand international capacity by 1.5 times by fiscal 2030. The airline secured a strategic investment in Episode Six in March 2025 to enhance JAL Pay, its rebranded multi-currency digital wallet offering bank top-ups, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and SmartCode for 30 million customers. Additionally, in August 2024, Japan Airlines signed an agreement with ENEOS, Japan's first major energy firm to import sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for supply to JAL, supporting carbon reduction goals amid ongoing fleet modernization.
