Founded in 1972 as Sound Hokuetsu Co., Ltd. and renamed Hard Off Corporation Co., Ltd. in 1995, the company maintains headquarters in Shibata, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, with a network spanning all 47 prefectures and international presence through platforms such as eBay's HARD OFF JAPAN shop. In August 2025, Hard Off proposes to acquire an 84.04% stake in ECONOS Co., Ltd. from Bookoff Group Holdings Limited, Yamamoto Asset Co., Ltd. and Ain Holdings Inc. for ¥1.6 billion, with the transaction expected to close by late September 2025 pending approvals; the company also launches its eBay reuse e-commerce shop in October 2025 to expand online sales channels.
