Business
Kuramoto Co., Ltd. (5216.T) manufactures and sells precision glass substrates for flat panel displays and related components. The company develops, processes, and markets glass substrates including TFT-LCD, STN-LCD, TN-LCD, EL, color filter, and film-forming varieties; thin film devices and quartz products; semiconductor manufacturing equipment parts such as quartz glass and SiC processing; and industrial machinery encompassing smart solution equipment, electrical parts, air-conditioner components, automotive batteries, ETC devices, AV equipment, and maintenance tools. It operates primarily in Japan, targeting display manufacturers, semiconductor firms, automotive suppliers, and industrial clients, with headquarters in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture, and was founded in 1975. Kuramoto conducts business through its glass substrate segment, which handles cutting, chamfering, polishing, defect removal, film stripping, and smoothing for FPD and organic EL applications including flat ITO film polishing; and its industrial machinery segment, which produces thin film coatings, optical filters, and repaired quartz parts via its quartz parts repair clinic. The company pursues diversification into high-growth areas, including perovskite solar cells, high-speed AI cameras, DX Lark partner services for digital transformation, and cleaning robots. In recent developments, Kuramoto completed the acquisition of iWith Robotics Co., Ltd. from Netstars Co., Ltd. and others; executed a private placement of 1,258,000 common shares and 251,600 stock acquisition rights in September 2024 raising approximately ¥429 million from investors including Nasu Material Corporation and New Century LLP; announced a company split via simplified absorption-type split in November 2025; entered a comprehensive business alliance with Kuramoto Manufacturing for cleaning robot solutions and Lark partnerships; and updated earnings forecasts amid non-operating expenses in its fiscal third quarter of December 2025.
