- Nakayama Steel Works, Ltd. (5408.T) manufactures and sells steel products through its core steel segment, encompassing primary products such as steel slabs, billets, hot-rolled steel strips, thick plates, intermediate plates, steel bars including wire rods, bar-in-coils and rebar, and by-products; secondary processed products including steel coil products such as hot-rolled, pickling, plated, slit and striped/pattern coils, steel sheet products such as leveler sheets, checkered steel and pattern steel plates, lightweight C-shaped steel products, steel pipes and secondary wire rod products; and building materials like lightweight steel frames, pipes and C-beams primarily for civil engineering and low-rise residential structures, with base materials hot-dip galvanized and further coated for corrosion resistance and user-friendliness. The company also operates an engineering segment offering steel fish reefs, breeding reefs, seaweed reefs, rolls, valves, casting equipment and machine processing and assembly; and a real estate segment involved in the buying, leasing, brokerage and sale of properties, alongside port transportation, freight vehicle services and environmental services. Founded in 1923 and headquartered in Osaka, Japan, Nakayama Steel Works maintains 10 production plants nationwide including Funamachi, Tomakomai, Tatsunokuchi, Tabuse, Oita and Miyakonojo, serving primarily the construction, automotive parts, construction equipment and infrastructure sectors domestically with an annual steel production capacity of approximately 1.1 million tons using electric arc furnace processes that recycle scrap metal for lower CO2 emissions. In November 2025, the company executed a joint venture agreement with Nippon Steel Corporation to establish NN STEEL LLC (tentative name) by March 2026, with Nakayama holding 51% and Nippon Steel 49%, to own and lease a new electric arc furnace and facilities at the Funamachi Plant for slab production at a total investment up to 105.5 billion yen, enabling construction start in November 2026 and operations from 2030 to expand low-emission electric arc furnace capacity, enhance resource recycling and supply slabs and processed hot-rolled products to Nippon Steel while advancing the company's long-term growth strategy and carbon neutrality goals.
