Business
Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P. (BEP-UN.TO) owns and operates one of the world's largest publicly traded renewable power platforms, comprising hydroelectric, wind, solar, distributed generation, energy storage, and sustainable solutions such as renewable natural gas, carbon capture and storage, cogeneration, biomass, nuclear services, eFuels, and power transformation. The partnership generates electricity primarily through approximately 35,000 megawatts of operating capacity across hydro, wind, utility-scale solar, distributed generation, and pumped storage facilities, serving utilities, industrial customers, corporate offtakers, and grid operators with long-term, inflation-linked contracts; it maintains a substantial development pipeline exceeding 157,000 megawatts. Headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and founded in 1999 as a subsidiary of Brookfield Corporation, the company conducts operations across North America, South America including Brazil and Colombia, Europe, Asia including India and China, and recently Southeast Asia. Recent strategic developments include the December 2024 agreement to acquire a 510 MW utility-scale solar portfolio from SunEnergy1 in North Carolina and Virginia under a programmatic framework with exclusivity on an additional 330 MW and access to a 14 GW development pipeline, supported by long-term corporate power purchase agreements in the PJM market; in November 2025, Brookfield Renewable made its first renewable energy investments in Southeast Asia through the acquisition of Alba Renewables to anchor regional expansion. The partnership also advanced partnerships with major tech buyers, signing initial contracts under a Google Hydro Framework Agreement for 670 MW from Pennsylvania facilities in 2025, alongside continued demand from Microsoft and others for hydro, nuclear, wind, and solar. In November 2023, it completed the acquisition of a 51% interest in Westinghouse Electric Company for US$7.9 billion alongside Cameco, enhancing its nuclear services capabilities.
