Business
Velan Inc. designs, manufactures and markets a broad range of industrial valves and related products worldwide for critical applications in power generation, oil and gas, refining, chemical and petrochemical, pulp and paper, mining and marine industries. The company offers quarter-turn valves including resilient-seated, Securaseal metal-seated, Coker, API 6D/API 6A pipeline and modular double block and bleed ball valves, as well as Torqseal triple-offset butterfly valves; gate, globe and check valves encompassing API 600 cast steel, corrosion-resistant steel, API 602 small forged, API 6D/API 6A through conduit and double expanding gate, large forged pressure seal and bolted bonnet, y-pattern, Proquip dual-plate, API 6D/API 6A non-slam and swing check varieties; specialty products such as cryogenic, HF acid, bellows seal and severe-service valves; bimetallic steam traps, trap stations and manifolds; engineering solutions; and cable drive actuators. Velan serves customers including utilities, governments, original equipment manufacturers and engineering contractors across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East, with manufacturing facilities in Canada, the United States, Italy and Saudi Arabia following the establishment of Velan Gulf Manufacturing Company. Founded in 1950 and headquartered in Montreal, Canada, Velan operates as a subsidiary of Velan Holding Co. Ltd. In major strategic initiatives during 2025, Velan completed the sale of its French subsidiaries Segault SAS and Velan S.A.S. to Framatome SAS in March for total consideration of US$208.4 million and divested its asbestos-related liabilities through the April sale of Velan Valve Corp. to an affiliate of Global Risk Capital for US$143 million, resulting in a virtually debt-free balance sheet and enhanced liquidity to support growth in nuclear and clean energy sectors. The company secured a 10-year alliance agreement with Bruce Power in 2024 valued at up to $100 million for nuclear and non-nuclear valves and services, received a $20 million CAD valve order from Ontario Power Generation in October 2025 and celebrated the first order at its new Saudi Arabia plant in May 2025 after achieving Saudi Aramco approvals.
