Business
Union Electric Company (UEPCO), doing business as Ameren Missouri and a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation, engages in the rate-regulated generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity and the distribution of natural gas in central and eastern Missouri, serving approximately 1.3 million electric customers across 64 counties and more than 500 communities, including the greater St. Louis area; it generates power from a diverse portfolio including coal, nuclear, natural gas, hydroelectric, methane gas, and solar sources. Founded in 1902 and headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, the company provides electric services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers in a 24,000 square-mile service territory and natural gas to about 135,000 customers. Core offerings encompass regulated electric transmission at voltages including 345kV, 230kV, 161kV, 138kV, 69kV, and 34.5kV; energy efficiency programs such as Peak Time Savings, Pay As You Save home assessments, smart thermostat discounts, and business-focused BizSavers; renewables initiatives like subscription-based Renewable Solutions; and customer support tools including Budget Billing, Ameren Alerts, and a mobile app. Recent developments include regulatory approval in November 2025 for a large-load electric plan to serve data centers and major businesses; plans for the Big Hollow Energy Center, a hybrid 800-MW simple-cycle natural gas plant with 400-MW lithium-ion battery storage in Jefferson County, slated for 2028 completion; the proposed 250-MW Reform Renewable Energy Center solar facility adjacent to the Callaway nuclear plant, targeting 2028 service; activation of 500 MW of new solar generation with a $950 million investment; a doubled subscription renewables program adding 4,700 MW by 2036 for $9.5 billion; and multiyear energy efficiency and demand response programs offering $75 million in rebates launched in January 2025.
